Best Way To Preserve Avocado

Which is the best way to preserve our avocados? That’s what we all ask to keep our avocados without turning brown and mushy in just a couple days!

The problem is that as we all know avocados are expensive!

Avocados are like bananas if you leave it for too long without being properly preserved they will turn brown, mushy and slimy and that’s a no, no!

Everyone as different techniques from putting garlic in storage containers to put lemon in your avocado to keep the color but in my humble opinion it just doesn’t work and you end up with a smelly and a weird taste avocado.

As I normally only use a half of an avocado a day I always want to keep my other half good and fresh so I put my half avocado in a small container or an avocado hugger and put it in the fridge!

How long do I keep it?

If the avocado is fresh picked they will ripe in about 3 to 6 days on ambient temperature but if you want to retard the ripe just put on a container and put it in the fridge and should be fine for a couple more days.

If its not fresh and the ripe is already in place it should only last up to 2 to 4 days.

A good way to keep your avocado from getting brown try use some avocado oil on his flesh, and put it in a container and leave it in the fridge and will hold for a couple days more and keep the brown at bay.

  1. Thank you! Christmas is coming and I need to preserve all of my avocados I just bought until then and I had no idea how I was going to make it happen. I didn’t want to try all those other techniques where I have to get the garlic involved or putting lemon on my avocado. I wanted something simple and easy so I’m going to choose your method of just storing it in a container. Cheers, will let you know how it goes 🙂

  2. If I want to store only half an avocado, do I put it in an airtight container face down or face up in the airtight container in the fridge? Do I store that half an avocado with the stone as well, or should I remove it before putting the half the avocado in the fridge? Which way is best?

    1. Hi David,

Normally I put my avocado in a airtight container or a hugger. I always leave it face down and I leave the seed inside as it takes longer to turn brown with the seed on.

  3. Thank you so much for your post Liliana. I really love avocados and always have trouble keeping them. Usually I just eat them all in less than 2 days, which is wasteful. Honestly, I had no idea that you can put it in the fridge. I can’t wait to try it.

  4. I am not too big into avocados but maybe I’ll give them another try. Thanks for the information, will most likely try it out.
